CESAR, the Spanish international defender, is not expected to be joining Wanderers this month, according to Reebok chairman, Phil Gartside.
Sam Allardyce has confirmed an interest in the Deportivo La Coruna centre-back but weekend reports claiming Wanderers had fought off competition from Newcastle and Spurs and agreed a deal with the Spanish club appear to have been exaggerated.
Gartside dismissed the reports on Monday, saying it was unlikely Wanderers would be signing Cesar, who is no longer playing regularly in La Liga and is desperate for regular football to stand a chance of playing in the World Cup.
"We have made no approach to Deportivo to sign the player," the Bolton chief said.
"It baffles me where these reports originate. It is unlikely we will be pursuing any interest in Cesar".
