IN reply to Brian Tetlow (December 30).Yes, I agree that should Britain adopt the crime stopping measure of Singapore, then our country would probably feel safer. But, be honest, they are a bit drastic.
During a visit there in 1995 when we landed at Changi Airport a member of the cabin crew announced: 'Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Singapore. If any of you are in possession of drugs, the penalty is death. Please enjoy your stay. What a welcome!
No public smoking, or litter, or chewing gum, do make for cleaner air and streets, but let's not forget what also took place in Singapore in 1942. Is that what you want for Britain?
