AN OVER 60s club has paid tribute to its formidable president, who has died aged 89.
Mrs Kay Bogan passed away in North Manchester General Hospital on December 20 after suffering bronchial problems for the past 18 months.
Although she spent much of the past year in and out of hospital, Mrs Bogan, who also suffered from asthma, still a committed president of Our Lady of Grace Over 60s Club, in Fairfax Road, Prestwich.
Just before Christmas 2004 she was presented with a surprise gift in honour of her 25 years service to the club.
During her time at the club, Mrs Bogan had organised many holidays, days out, meals and social events and it was a fitting tribute that all 70 members of the club attended her funeral at Our Lady of Grace Church yesterday.
Her best friend for 50 years and vice-president of the club, Olive Simpson, said: "The church was packed and it was a lovely service. Kay loved the club and we have had some fabulous times over the years. In fact, Kay has had a wonderful life. She had a wonderful husband, Johny, who passed away nine years ago and Kay was a very kind person. She was also very determined. My cousin sent some flowers and what was written on the card really summed up Kay. She was a no nonsense lady who always spoke her mind."
Mrs Bogan lived in Stanley Street, Prestwich, and in her younger days worked as a driver for Silverwings, a dry cleaning firm in Broughton.
Monsignor John Allen, who conducted Mrs Bogan's funeral, added: "Kay was a lovely woman and an excellent president of the over 60s club."
