A DOG escaped serious injury after impaling itself on a spike when it attempted to jump over a 3.5ft high fence.
A fire crew had to cut away the point of the railing before the spike was gently removed from the animals stomach. The incident happened In Masefield Avenue, Radcliffe.
Two veterinary nurses from the A Regan surgery in Water Street, Radcliffee, tended to the Weimaraner dog as the spike was removed last Friday.
The railing only penetrated the skin. The dog was allowed home the following day after treatment.
