PUPILS at St Joseph's and St Bede's Primary School have won the national Kerbcraft award for road safety.
The Kerbcraft scheme recruits volunteers from the local community, usually the children's parents, who train the school children at the roadside during weekly sessions.
It was developed three years ago as part of the Government's road safety strategy and there have been 103 schemes across the country with 1,000 schools taking part.
In Bury, around 750 children have been involved and 70 volunteers have given up their free time to become Kerbcraft trainers.
The scheme has run in Bury for three years at nine primary schools: East Ward primary, St Luke's, Holy Trinity, St John's with St Mark's, St Joseph & St Bede's, St Michael's, St Paul's, St Peter's, and St Thomas's.
