ORGANISERS of the Horwich Carnival Races say this year's event will be bigger and better than ever before.
Top runners and cyclists will compete in races through the streets - and, for the first time, young runners will be invited to take part in the Under 17s Junior Fun Run Tour.
Also making its debut will be the National Elite Men's cycling race.
Last year's races attracted around 1,000 competitors, and it is hoped that the 2006 events will be even more popular.
Gareth Hughes, from Horwich RMI Harriers, said: "We are pleased to have attracted the national running and cycling events, and we have also added the junior fun run for the first time. We are always looking to expand the event."
The programme of events includes the traditional Horwich Carnival Parade on Sunday, July 18, which will see a procession through the town centre with floats and walking groups in fancy dress.
Organisers hope to raise a considerable amount of money for charity as the events did last year when hundreds lined the streets to watch the parade.
