JUSSI Jaaskelainen has admitted his Bolton Wanderers future is in the balance.
The Reebok's longest serving player is refusing to sign the three-year contract he negotiated last summer, prompting Sam Allardyce to suggest he may be sold, possibly during the transfer window.
Jaaskelainen, who is 30 and has just 18 months left on his current deal, says he wants to stay but the impasse in negotiations has led to him, for the first time, conceding that he may have no option but to move on.
"It's out of my hands," said the Finland international keeper. "I don't want to go into details. I let the club and my agent sort out things like that.
"It would be great to sign a new deal but, if that doesn't happen, I have to look forward, because I have to look after my family."
Jaaskelainen's contract dispute appeared to have been resolved in June when Wanderers confirmed that the player they signed in November 1997 - regarded as one of the Premiership's top five goalkeepers - had agreed a three-year deal. But Allardyce revealed last month that the paperwork remained unsigned, because of a wrangle over a particular clause, which is thought to relate to the structure of payments.
"There's a stand-off in terms of a certain legality of a contract other players have signed here," Allardyce said. "In the end, we will do what we need to do.
"He's a valuable asset and, if he doesn't want to sign, the club may want to cash in, whether in January or at the end of the season."
Jaskelainen currently heads one of the strongest goalkeeping departments in the Premiership with former England international, Ian Walker, operating as his number two and the 24-year-old Oman international, Ali-Al-Habsi, awaiting international clearance after arriving from the Norwegian club, Lyn Oslo.
