A CAMERA shy toddler from Horwich has beaten off competition from 50,000 other children to get his picture in a calendar.

A picture of two-year-old Cai Wyn Smith clinging to his dad's leg is the June picture in the 2006 calendar from Comfort Pure fabric conditioner.

Cai and the other 11 children were chosen from a mountain of photographs sent in when the calendar competition was launched last year.

Cai's mum Eluned, of Pennine Road, said: "This picture was taken in our garden as Cai held on to his dad James' leg, and is one of the family favourites. It's now hanging in the hallway of our home."

The calendar focuses on 12 childhood emotions, from giggly to angelic.

Cai depicts a safe feeling when children look to a grown-ups for protection.

The 12 children are also competing for a year's supply of Comfort Pure fabric conditioner and the chance to star in a television advertising campaign airing later in 2006.

Stephanie MacKenzie, brand activation executive for Comfort Pure, said: "Cai's picture is wonderful, and the response to the competition was amazing. Photographs came in from all over the country, and it was a mammoth task to choose just 12 winners."

The calendar is being given away free at Adams stores nationwide.
