RESIDENTS at a luxury apartment block in Liverpool are enjoying a communal yard with a difference - it has the world's first outdoor crystal chandeliers.

The three chandeliers, each made up of 2,250 Swarovski beads set on a chrome helix, measure one metre tall and weigh 55lb.

They have been suspended above a central courtyard at the Albany Building, in the city centre as a permanent fixture for residents to enjoy as they sit outside.

The building was Liverpool's first cotton exchange and the courtyard was used to display bales of raw cotton by 19th century merchants.
