TONY Christie's single Is This The Way To Amarillo was the best selling song of 2005.
The crooner, who teamed up with Bolton comedian Peter Kay, beat the Christmas number one -That's My Goal - by X-Factor winner Shayne Ward, into second place.
McFly, with Bolton-born Danny Jones, had the fifth best-selling single with their double A-side All About You / You've Got A Friend.
Tony Christie's million-selling song spent seven weeks at number one, raising more than £1million for Comic Relief.
And much of the single's success has been put down to Peter Kay who made a video to back up the song.
When it was originally released in 1971, the single went to number 18, but last year it became hugely popular after Peter used it in his Channel 4 series, Phoenix Nights.
Max and Paddy, bouncers at the Phoenix Club, were taking the Asian Elders community group on a trip, when they started singing Christie's hit, Is This The Way To Amarillo.
Tony said he had been watching the programme in his home on the Spanish coast.
He said: "I watched the first series of Phoenix Nights at home in Spain and was watching it when they sang Amarillo.
"I couldn't believe it. I was absolutely taken by surprise. My phone was red hot with people ringing up to see if I had seen it, and it just seems to have snowballed from there."
Peter went on to perform renditions of the song during his live shows.
Peter recruited a host of TV legends to appear in the video was shown on Red Nose Day, including Michael Parkinson, Jimmy Savile, Ronnie Corbett and Shakin' Stevens.
The song has now gone from strength to strength, dominating mobile ringtone sales and being a popular celebration song at the Reebok Stadium.
Last year's other best selling singles included the Crazy Frog ringtone by Axel F, James Blunt's You're Beautiful, Pussycat Dolls' Don't Cha, Westlife's You Raise Me Up and Madonna's Hung Up.
