PETERBROUGH 4 BURY 1: Chris Casper had no immediate answers to the Shakers capitulation at London Road.
The Bury boss was condemned to the biggest defeat of his managerial career so far, and was left searching for answers ahead of Saturday's trip to Carlisle.
He said: "I can't understand why everything just fell apart.
"I didn't say much to the lads afterwards-there was so much wrong with it, I could have been in there all day. You need a bit of time to make sure you don't say anything stupid.
"But I thought we looked rusty, I thought we looked off the pace and we didn't turn up."
Dave Challinor was outpaced for James Quinn's opening goal, Colin Woodthorpe thumped in a stunning own goal and while Sagi Burton was credited with Peterborough's third, Andy Parrish appeared to get the final touch.
Jamie Day's fourth was an excellent solo strike but he received the freedom of the penalty box before firing home beyond Neil Edwards.
Bury were stung into action with 18 minutes let whenBrian Barry-Murphy's corner 19 minutes from time was weakly punched out by Tyler and Challinor side footed his first goal of the season.
