MILLIONS of desperate dieting women stash secret snacks under the bed, in wardrobes, and even in the bathroom, according to research published on Tuesday.

The confessions are revealed in a survey of more than 1,100 women carried out for weight loss magazine LighterLife.

Some 61 per cent of interviewees had tried to diet, with over half of those saying their shortest attempts had lasted less than a week.

The poll found that nearly one in five had hidden food or eaten secretly in locations that included a childs bedroom, nearby woodland, the car, and even a school toilet.

Nearly a third of slimmers also admit that they prefer unhealthy treats to a night of passion.

Bar Hewlett, founder of LighterLife, said: "Our survey reveals the extent of British womens desperation.

"There have been women who hide food in the washing machine, under the plastic bag inside a cereal packet, under their jumpers and even up their sleeves."
