EVEN today, when the morals of many match those of the citizens of Biblical Sodom and Gommorah, I feel certain that the vast majority of the people of Bolton are opposed to the licence that has been given to the Bank Street club, allowing fully nude dancers - female and male - to perform there.
I have spoken to a number of people about this, councillors included, one of whom actually sits on the licensing committee, and not one person has spoken out in favour of this being allowed in Bolton. So why is it happening?
Blackpool, which as we all know, was once the nations favourite family holiday destination, is now little more than a magnet for stag and hen parties, where groups of drunken revellers wallow in this kind of sleazy filth.
Do we want our town to end up like Blackpool? There are always those who insist that adults should be allowed to watch whatever they want to, and that those who do not want to watch, do not have to.
But how far down the road to degradation do we go, before we say stop? We must have guidelines that safeguard the moral standards of a decent society, and guidelines that allow this kind of filth need to be re-set.
