CORONATION Street star Alan Halsall returned to his former school to officially open a new early years unit.
Alan, who plays mechanic Tyrone in the hit soap, visited St Paul's CE Primary, in Heathside Grove, Walkden, with his partner and former Corrie star Lucy Jo Hudson, who played Katy.
The Government has spent £20,000 to improve facilities for for children aged three to five, including a new outdoor play area with a storytelling corner and adventure playground.
Headteacher Trish O'Donnell said: "Alan still has close links with the school. His mother works here and he is very supportive of the work we do.
"This unit shows the community how important the school considers early years education to be. We wanted to celebrate it by holding an official opening."
Following the unveiling of the plaque, Alan planted an apple tree as part of the ceremony and children took part in activities, including face painting.
"It was a wonderful day," said Mrs O'Donnell.
