I read with much interest about the introduction of traffic management in Prestwich ('Village traffic chaos tops board agenda', Letters, November 10).

It has been getting worse over the past six or seven years and has not been helped by planning stupid traffic light systems in such a short distance and no sequencing.

In Holland for example they have a system where they keep the traffic flowing, reducing pollution. 'The Green Wave' they call it. Then there is the roundabout junction off the M60. Can someone explain to me why there are traffic lights on a roundabout at off peak times like the middle of the night?

The planners seem to insist on traffic lights everywhere, especially supermarkets and mini markets. And finally why a bus lane when there are few buses?

You certainly can't travel from Bury to Manchester via this route - you have to rely on the Metrolink and suffer 'sardinitis'!

I fear next on the agenda will be Congestion Tax. People will not give up their car by restricting their ability to get from A to B and not giving them a worthy alternative. Most people travelling this route are trying to get to places where a car is the only solution.
