The Prestwich Co-op Camera Club had a very good evening at Oldham Camera Club last Thursday where they took part in a multi-club monochrome print competition. The only dull part of the evening was the results that put Prestwich at the bottom on points!
Anyway they did bit better in the Multi-Club Slide Battle in their own clubrooms last Tuesday. Besides Prestwich there was Swinton, Oldham and North Manchester Camera Clubs and the Photographic Society and the Camera Club from Rochdale. Each club brought along ten slides for the competition.
The judge was Les Hitchcock ARPS, from the Wilmslow Guild and Leigh Camera Club. He did an excellent job. He went through all the slides once to view them then he commented on all the 60 slides in turn. He started by saying that this was the best set of slides he had ever come across and congratulated the clubs on their selections and the individuals on their photographic ability,
Such was the standard that he awarded top marks of 20 to five of the slides - Tulip Study and Winter Pattern from Oldham; Poppy Detail from Swinton; Ambience from Rochdale Photographic and Horses of the Camargue from Rochdale Camera Club. A further 12 slides got 18 or 19 marks.
The two Rochdale clubs did well. The Photographic Society was first with 174 marks and the Camera Club was second with 168 marks. Oldham CC was third with 166 marks; Swinton came fourth with 164 marks. Prestwich collected 159 marks and North Manchester 143 marks.
Next Tuesday, November 29, will be the last Monthly Assignment for 2005. The members will judge the quality of the prints and slides themselves so everyone will be involved. Bring your entries, and yourselves, to the side door of the Bridge Methodist Hall, behind Radcliffe Library between 7.30 and 8pm as usual.
