The young lads of Radcliffe Borough put in an excellent professional performance against lower league opposition.

On another night, the score could well have entered the double figure tally but for poor finishing.

Boro started with a 3-5-1-1 formation and, as early as the fifth minute, they were on the attack.

A superb lofting ball by Max George found Ricky Awane on the right wing and, with his pace, beat the Elton Vale defender and crossed in to the incoming Tom Glendon who was unable to convert an early chance.

The attacking did not stop there as Glendon too had a chance to put Boro one-nil up but his shot went over the bar.

DoMaine Rouse, who was a constant threat up front with his electrifying pace, had a chance to score when Michael Barnes-Gott put him through on goal but poor finishing from the promising striker let him down.

Michael Simcock threatened minutes later but his shot went agonisingly wide.

A neat one-two between George and Glendon put Glendon through on goal who tried to chip the keeper from 25 yards but, unfortunately for Boro, his shot curled over the bar.

Boro finally got their long awaited reward in the 35th minute when a good ball from Awane found Rouse who easily rounded the keeper to slot home his first goal of the season.

Boro went into half time disappointed not to have put more of their chances away.

The second half was started brightly by both teams and Elton Vale had a chance to equalise when their striker shot wide.

Boro finally doubled their lead in the 60th minute with a fantastic goal.

A long ball by Simcock found Glendon on the left who brought it down with ease, he beat the right back with a bit of trickery and then lovely footwork enabled him to beat three others and cross it to George who was waiting five yards out to put Boro two-nil up.

Substitutions were made in the 65th with Simcock and Barnes-Gott being replaced by Fitzgerald and Mulery-Cleary and it was Mulery-Cleary who could have put Boro 3-0 up when a surging run and cross by Awane was not met by Glendon and Mulery-Cleary.

Mulery-Cleary finally got his goal in the 75th minute when he ran on to the pass of Richard Jones and he slotted it past the keeper from 12 yards with ease.

All in all, it was a fantastic performance from the Boro boys and they will be hoping to carry on that form in the next round away at Ashton Town on Sunday November, 27.

The next home game for the young lads is Monday November, 28 when they face Accrington Stanley in a league match at the Inn2gether Stadium.
