PRESTWICH is planning a Blue Christmas after signing up Manchester City star Trevor Sinclair to switch on their festive lights.

Organisers are hoping for more success than last year as a 'mix-up' left fans disappointed when he failed to show up.

The football club held its hands up and took responsibility for the no-show, blaming an away fixture at Middlesborough.

Trevor, a former pupil at Mersey Drive Primary School, was said to be 'mortified' about last year's appearance and was only too happy to be part of the proceedings this year.

The Christmas tree lights will be switched on in the Longfield Centre precinct on Monday, December 5.

There will be open air entertainment from 4pm to 6pm and Trevor will flick the switch around 5.45pm.

Also making an appearance will be Prestwich singer Elizabeth Phillips, who reached the boot camp in ITV's The X-Factor, the Crumpsall Comets brass band, male duo Caution, featuring Chris and Stevie Fellone, girl group Bermuda and the Class Act Youth Theatre Group.

Host for the evening will be Dave Kay and there will be a Santa's grotto with presents for the children.

Also on offer will be a Silcock's fairground ride and refreshments, plus special guests Ivan Lewis MP and the Mayor of Bury, Coun Steve Treadgold.

Event organiser David Curtis said: "It was disappointing last year but City have assured me that he will be there!"
