SPECIALIST metals worth more than £40,000 were stolen during a raid on a foundry in Astley Bridge.
More than 30 drums containing nickel, tin and molyedenum were taken from Sandusky Walmsley Ltd paper manufacturers in Crompton Way on Tuesday morning.
Detectives believe the metals were stolen to order.
The thieves cut through the gate at the rear of the premises in Union Street to gain entry to the foundry and it must have taken them several hours to steal the equipment.
Bob Lane from Bolton CID said: "The gang certainly knew what they were looking for. They took the lid off the drums to see what was in each one."
Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 7.30am and 2pm on Tuesday to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 5740.
