ATHERTON Library is to close for a pre-Christmas makeover.
It will be shut from Monday December 5 for internal work and reopen the following Monday (12th).
The work will give the library a more vibrant feel and make it more inviting for users.
The facelift includes the introduction of the new Explore brand that is being established across all of the boroughs libraries. It was first introduced by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust in Golborne earlier this year and creates a more welcoming and user-friendly setting in which customers can enjoy their library and its services.
The building will also be re-painted and have new signs erected to further enhance the internal layout.
Regular users will not be charged any fines during the closure period.
Sue Colville, the Trust's libraries co-ordinator, said: "This is a very exciting time for the library service as a whole and I'm sure the people of Atherton will feel the long-term benefits of having a more pleasant and inviting environment for their local library.
"We feel our loyal customers will appreciate the new look of the library and will enjoy using our services even more in the future."
Any customers who have worries or concerns about the service over the shut-down period please can contact Marlene Chadwick or Joyce Peat on 01942 404817 or 01942 404738. Normal service will also continue at nearby Tyldesley Library.
