I READ on the internet about Bolton remaking its image. I also read the several letters to the Bolton Evening News which led me to believe that many people are not overwhelmed with the idea.
I left Bolton about 50 years ago to live in the US and I carry the image of tall chimney stacks, cloth caps, Burnden Park and even tramcars.
It was a great place to live and the people were just as great
However it's good to move on and join the modern world, but maybe you could set apart a small area in the town and make it like the original Bolton, with the little shops and call it "Old Town".
In the town in California where I live, we have done just that. We have a thriving, modern town with an area set aside called "Old Town", which looks like it did a hundred years ago, and the little stores there do a thriving business.
However, I wish the town well with the endeavour.
