WITH regards to Bolton being in Lancashire or Greater Manchester. I can confirm that Bolton is in neither.
Pre-1974 yes Bolton was in Lancashire. Post-1974 Bolton was in Greater Manchester until it was disbanded. Bolton, now, stands by itself. It pays towards police, fire, etc, just like the nine other towns of the old Greater Manchester thus the reason that GMP, GM Fire, still exist.
Therefore Bolton is most definitely not in either Lancashire or Greater Manchester. We stand by ourselves.
Bolton is in BOLTON.
