IN common with so very many other people, I have never accepted the use of the name Greater Manchester. I was born in Lancashire and hope to die in Lancashire. I am very proud to live in the County Palatine of Lancashire.
I am obviously therefore in wholehearted support of an official rejection of the title Greater Manchester.
However, there is another matter which I feel to be of equal importance.
The red rose is the official emblem of our county Palatine of Lancashire, NOT of the Labour Party. Surely the party was/is able to find an emblem of its own? (Did it ever try to hijack the white rose of Yorkshire?)
Party affiliation and loyalties do not come into this - the red rose is ours because we are Lancastrians. It IS Lancashire!
