Chester 29, Sedgley Park 24
Senior Colts (Under 19): Sedgley could field only 13 players but, in accordance with the Colts League rules, Chester were obliged to play with 14.
In good playing conditions, the first half was evenly contested with two tries apiece.
Sedgley's first came via a strong run by Matt Lamprey from the back of a maul 15 metres out.
He broke through four tackles to score, giving John Lillie an easy conversion.
Park's second came when Jake Eaton charged down and scored as Chester tried to clear their lines after a long period of sustained pressure by the Sedgley forwards; Lillie converted.
Chester's two tries both came from good, quick passing moves, exploiting the overlap, but Sedgley were guilty of missing too many tackles, making the job easier for Chester.
Chester attacked with a fresh resolve in the second half, with Sedgley failing to relieve the pressure and a sloppy try was conceded.
From the re-start, Sedgley stole the ball and Luke Sampson stepped through the Chester line to score under the posts.
Chester scored two more tries, the best of which came from an individual run from the Chester half down the wing.
Though Sedgley finished the game the stronger, they were denied time and time again by Chester's resolute defence.
Sedgley Park 9, Orrell 7
Lancashire & Cheshire Junior Colts (Under 17) 'B' League
ORRELL began strongly and Sedgley needed a couple of last-ditch tackles to save their line.
When Park did gain possession they were always under pressure, and all the play was around, or inside, the home 22.
After 17 minutes there was a long hold-up caused by an injury to an Orrell player.
The game finally continued on an adjacent pitch and Sedgley immediately produced a wonderful forward drive which resulted in a well taken drop-goal by stand-off Dominic Kohler.
Orrell missed the simplest of penalties before Sedgley began to come more strongly into the game, enjoying a clear superiority in the tight.
Another drive by the pack almost brought a try.
Orrell were penalised five metres out but Sedgley mishandled following the tap-penalty, the final action of a competitive if untidy first half.
The second half began in the same fashion as the first, with strong and skilful Orrell play met by committed Sedgley tackling.
Once again Sedgley broke out to score three points, a penalty nicely converted by Kohler.
The same player stretched Sedgley's lead to 9-0 following a late-tackle offence.
Orrell responded by scoring a fine try from inside their own half, good handling and then a kick and chase to the line.
The conversion made it 9-7 and Sedgley had to endure some tricky moments before the whistle ended a good, exciting game.
