A MESSAGE of peace has spread through Prestwich Arts College thanks to an international painting competition.
Pupils at the Heys road site were invited to take part in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest as part of their art studies.
The local branch of the competition was organised by Prestwich Lions and the winning design has now been sent off to compete in the international rounds of the contest.
The competition brief was to create a poster that emphasised the importance of world peace to young people.
Three finalists were chosen and the winner, 12-year-old Adam Lock portrayed a "happy earth glowing with peace" in his colourful design.
Prestwich Lions members and judges Joe and Audrey Barry said Adam's poster was selected for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest's theme "Peace Without Borders".
Mrs Barry said: "We were impressed with the expression and creativity of all the students at Prestwich Arts College."
The competition is now in its 18th year and the winner will receive a cash prize and a trip to New York.
There will also be 23 merit award winners who will win a cash prize.
