A SECTION of public footpath in Radcliffe, described as a potential deathtrap, is to be permanently fixed by Asda.
Walkers and cyclists who use the path across the River Irwell, at the rear of the supermarket, say a damaged safety barrier left open a 30ft drop into the river.
While inquiries were made into ownership of the land, the safety barrier was temporarily fixed by Bury Council last month, because officials agreed it posed a danger. Vandals had pulled it down.
Now bosses at Asda have confirmed the footpath is their responsiblity and have undertaken to fix the barrier.
A spokesman said: "We have finally established the land is ours and we will be putting up a full fence and enclosing the section where there has been a complaint."
