ON Tuesday, November 1, Rita Whitaker welcomed Chandra Law to talk to members of Bury Parish Mothers' Union about Malaysia.
This is her second visit and she brought a colourful display of hand-crafted objects and photographs of the traditional and modern country she comes from.
With Kuala Lumpur to the north, and Singapore to the south, Malaysia is hot and humid. The hibiscus is the national flower, and married women wear it on special occasions on the right side of their head.
Chandra comes from a traditional fishing village close to a river. The water is used for drinking, washing and toilet - with strict rules - and the girls are expected to collect water in buckets three times a day.
Chandra now lives in Bury and she made us realise how different life is here.
Pat Evans thanked Chandra for her fascinating talk; we hope she comes again. J.S.L
