THE guest speaker at the November meeting of Tottington Townswomen's Guild is a member of the Samaritans.
The Samaritans is a charity, founded in 1953, which exists to provide confidential emotional support to anyone who is suicidal or despairing, and to increase public awareness of issues surrounding suicide and depression.
Trained volunteers provide this service 24-hours-a-day. The service is free, and everyone is guaranteed absolute confidentiality and will not be judged.
Samaritan volunteers are not professional counsellors or psychotherapists but caring volunteers who have been trained in the art of listening and empathy.
There are more than 200 branches in the UK and, as an international group, can be found in 50 countries.
A vote-of-thanks was given by Mary Farrington. Business matters included final arrangements for the Christmas party.
On Tuesday, November 29, The Harmonies singing group will entertain in St James's Hall at 7.30. Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission £1 including refreshments. M.A.
