THREE of the rarest Bolton Wanderers match programmes were expected to fetch a total of £300 when they were auctioned at Christie's in London on Thursday.
The programmes were issued for Wanderers' summer tour of southern Africa in 1959, when Bill Ridding was manager; Nat Lofthouse was the club's leading scorer and Eddie Hopkinson kept goal.
Because few copies of these programmes are likely to have survived after nearly 50 years, their value has risen. They are for games against Southern Transvaal, South Africa and Northern Rhodesia in May and June 1959.
The African programmes are not the only Bolton interest in Christie's' sporting memorabilia auction.
A gold 1923 FA Cup final runners-up medal presented to ex-Bolton Wanderers star George Kay, who lined up as West Ham's centre-half and captain against Bolton in the historic first-ever Wembley FA Cup final, is expected to fetch up to £3,000.
