SHOP owner Norman Pennington thought he had come up on the lottery when he received an official looking fax bearing the Camelot logo.
The letter purporting to be from Camelot Lottery Promos, of Whitefield, informed him he was one of six lucky winners randomly selected to pick up a £300,000 pay out.
Being well acquainted with the numerous scams which ask for bank or card details to be passed, he thought the communication could be serious because none of these were asked for - until he tried contacting the bogus agency concerned.
Now Norman is warning anyone else who receives these letters to throw them in the bin.
A spokesman for Camelot said there are numerous scams involving the lottery being operated but people choose to play the lottery, they cannot win unless they buy a ticket and are never contacted by either e-mail or fax. This is a criminal matter and police should be informed.
