THE stars were out in force at Farnworth Veterans Club.
Not only was comedian Peter Kay there, but so was pop singer Sharleen Spiteri, lead singer of pop band Texas.
Veterans club members cancelled their traditional Remembrance Sunday band concert in order to allow filming of the Scottish band's new video, Sleep, directed by Kay.
In a spoof of well-known scenes from movies and videos Peter and Sharleen acted out roles from hits such as An Officer and a Gentleman and Lionel Richies Hello video.
On Sunday, they were at the Brackley Street club, recreating a Phoenix Nights Club type show for the video and drafting in 50 locals as extras to make up the audience.
Members of the veterans club and nearby St Gregory's Social Club volunteered for the roles and Peter himself donned the guise of a previous character he has played in That Peter Kay Thing - the would-be pop writer and performer Marc Park.
Peter looked to be enjoying himself as he and his entourage arrived at the Asda car park, while Sharleen was smuggled into the club to avoid waiting cameramen.
"It all went well," said club secretary Francis Wood.
"There were some younger ones in the audience but Peter mostly wanted the older end so it looked like the Phoenix Nights club."
Mr Wood was delighted to have his photograph taken with Peter, but had to be told who Sharleen Spiteri was.
And he hopes the memento of the filming will be hung on the wall in the club.
Sleep is due to be released on January 9 and veterans club members are expected to be among the first to go out and buy a copy.
In the meantime, Peter and pal Paddy McGuinness, who starred in Phoenix Nights and The Road to Nowhere, have their own antidote to Christmas over-indulgence.
The pair have produced their own fitness video, The Power of Two, which is due for release on DVD on December 27, priced £19.99.
