FIRST class prizes are up for grabs in this year's Young Letter Writers competition.

Primary school pupils across the North-west could win a share of the £40,000 prize money. And one lucky child could win a family holiday to Florida.

Youngsters aged six to 11 are invited to write to anyone, anywhere and about anything. Entries will be accepted in all formats including audiotape, braille, handwriting and typed. They will be judged be a panel who will be looking for creativity, expression and emotion.

There are two age categories: six to eight and nine to 11, and there will be a special achievement award.

Regional winners in each category will join the shortlist to find nine national winners and an overall Young Letter Writer of the Year.

The closing date for entries is December 20. Regional and national winners will be announced in February. More information is available from www.royal mail.com/youngletterwriters
