ROBBERS pinned a 95-year-old blind woman to the wall while they ransacked her home.

The frail pensioner was at home in Holcombe Road, Greenmount, when the raiders struck.

Police today warned other residents, particularly the elderly, to be extra vigilant when answering the door.

Det Insp Bill Meadows from Bury Police, said: "This was a despicable attack on a frail elderly woman who was unable to defend herself.

"We believe she was deliberately targeted because she was vulnerable.

"She wasn't injured but was left very shaken by what happened.

"I would urge other residents in the area to be on the guard and not to answer the door without checking identification first."

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon just after 3pm.

The woman went to answer the door and saw several shadows inside the porch.

Believing it was friends or neighbours, she opened the door.

But she was attacked by a woman, who grabbed her arms and pinned her to the wall.

Three men then pushed their way into the house and searched for valuables.

They fled empty-handed minutes later and the pensioner called police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Priority Crime Unit at Bury on 0161 856 6103 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
