A MUoeF-TWO who overcame breast cancer has raised more than £6,000 to help other women with the disease by taking part in a charity abseil.
Janet Atkinson was 39 when she was diagnosed with cancer. She underwent surgery at the Royal Bolton Hospital to have the tumour removed, but also had to have her underarm lymph glands taken out to ensure the cancer had not spread.
She then had to be given radiotherapy treatment at the Christie Hospital, Manchester, and now, aged 45, she has been given the all-clear.
Since her operation, Mrs Atkinson has been unable to move her arm because her lymph nodes were removed.
She worked tirelessly to raise money for a gamma probe sentinel node biopsy machine for the Royal Bolton Hospital, which helps surgeons to see how far the cancer has spread, reducing the need for lymph glands to be removed.
But the hospital has already bought the machine and doctors have asked that the cash she raised goes towards a second ultrasound machine.
Mrs Atkinson had already raised more than £2,000, and increased this by a massive £6,265 by taking part in a charity abseil with some young pals, Janet's Crazy Gang The Pink Panthers, in Llangollen, Wales.
She said: "I want to say a great big thank you to everyone who was involved in this event.
"I'm sure we can all feel a great sense of achievement knowing we have helped so many people who are suffering from this dreadful disease."
