TWO drivers were killed after a crash in Leigh just before midnight on Friday.
A Ford Maverick and a Ford Transit van collided head on in Atherleigh Way, near Sainsbury's.
The driver of the Maverick, believed to be a 72-year-old man from Leigh, died at the scene, and his body had to be cut from the wreckage by firemen.
The Transit van driver, thought to be in his early 30s, was also freed by firemen while being treated by paramedics.
He was rushed to the Royal Bolton Hospital for emergency treatment but later died.
A passenger in the Transit van is believed to have escaped uninjured.
Police closed the carriageway for seven hours while the wreckage was cleared.
