DETECTIVES are following up a number of inquiries after it was revealed that a Bolton MP had received death threats.
Brian Iddon, MP for Bolton South-east, had received letters saying he would die before Christmas, and his family would be targeted.
The author of the letters branded him a traitor as a result of his support for the Sukula family who live in Great Lever and are seeking asylum, but face deportation by the Home Office.
Mr Iddon received four letters during the last two months from a man claiming to be an ex-soldier.
Police released the letters to the Bolton Evening News in the hope that someone would recognise the distinctive handwriting.
Detective Inspector Andy Hitchen said: "We have had a good response to our appeal for information about who is writing the letters. We are following up a number of lines of inquiry, and the investigation is on-going."
Anyone with information is asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 5740.
