A SPOKESMAN for Peter Kay's management has denied all knowledge of reports that the Bolton comedian is to record the official England song for the World Cup football tournament next year.
It was reported that the FA had picked the Phoenix Nights star to sing the England team's anthem for the World Cup in Germany.
The Football Association was said to have favoured Peter Kay after hearing Tony Christie's Is This The Way To Amarillo being sung by England fans at Old Trafford after the game against Poland.
Peter Kay recorded a hit Comic Relief video version of the song.
But a spokesman for Peter Kay said that they had not heard of any such FA plan.
And a spokesman for the FA said they were not yet at the stage where they could reveal who is, or who is not, going to be singing the official World Cup song.
Peter Kay is planning to launch a Christmas CD featuring the best music from his three hit TV series.
