A SHAFT slider in the employ of Messrs. Dobson and Barlow, named Abraham Oates (32), 3, Duxbury Street, met with a rather serious accident on Friday afternoon.

Whilst following his usual employment, a heavy pulley fell on to him, striking his head and the right side of his body. The Fire Station ambulance was immediately summoned, and it was found that Oates had sustained a scalp wound and a compound fracture of the right leg.

A NOVEL scene was witnessed in the centre of Farnworth this morning, when a large crowd gathered round a fierce fire arising from the petrol tank of a motor-bicycle.

The rider, a Radcliffe man, was speeding up Market Street, in the direction of Manchester, and had just given a warning "Toot, toot," when an exclamation was made by a pedestrian and the motorist was immediately seen to be enveloped in a blaze, whilst he left a trail of fire behind him on the cartway.
