TWO talented teenagers currently knocking on the first team door at Gigg Lane are Craig Madden and Paul Hilton.
Craig, aged 19, was born in Gorton and played his early football at Dialstone Comprehensive School in Stockport. He went into the plastering trade after leaving school and joined Northern Nomads in the Manchester League as well as turning out for the Stockport town youth team.
He signed full professional forms for Bury at the beginning of last season after a trial period.
Paul (18) was born in Chadderton and captained his school side every year at Grange School, Oldham. He played for the Oldham Under-15 town team and signed schoolboy forms for Blackpool at the age of 15, but was released a year later.
Last year Paul was selected for the England Schoolboys Under-18 side and the Greater Manchester county team. He left school in May after completing his A levels.
Paul came to the club as a trialist towards the end of last season, scored four goals in four matches for the reserves and signed full professional forms at the beginning of this season.
From the Bury Times of Friday August 14, 1953
There was a surprise for Bury supporters yesterday when manager McNeil announced that at their own request wing half backs Jimmy Greenhalgh and Frank Slynn had been placed on the transfer list.
Both Greenhalgh and Slynn joined Bury on November 30 1950 when the threat of relegation was becoming really serious. They were at once drafted into the first eleven and their inclusion helped to introduce some stability and fighting spirit into the play of the side.
Both have been excellent servants, being exceptionally keen club men. Last season Slynnhad the misfortune to break a leg, but he has, happily, made a complete recovery.
