Christian Aid celebrated its 50th birthday recently and the children at the school, off Hulton Lane, thought they should do something special to mark the occasion.

THE dreams of a group of Horwich history enthusiasts will be realised next week with the opening of a heritage centre in the town.

Horwich Heritage was set up in 1984 to record the history of the town before the closure of the rail works altered it forever.

STORMS in the Bolton area overnight caused flash floods, uprooted trees and brought chaos on the roads.

In one incident today, three drivers escaped as their vehicles plunged down an embankment off the M61 in a hailstone storm.

TWO people were taken to hospital after their van was in an accident with a fire engine on its way to an emergency call in Bolton town centre today.

The crash happened when the appliance was on its way to a fire at Skagen Court Flats.

It was in collision with a Reliant Robin van at the junction of Marsden Road and Deansgate.

THOUGH most of us, when we think of dogs in obedience tests, think of Alsatians, most of the other breeds have at one show or another a representative in these events.

At the Bolton Alsatian Club show tomorrow afternoon at the Drill Hall, Silverwell Street, for example, there is an entry of 32 in the obedience tests, and these include not only Alsatians, but a Border collie, a Shetland sheepdog, a golden retriever and a miniature French poodle.

"I HEARD a bang, and when I went outside I saw a man lying the road," said Miss Beatrice Hart, hairdresser, Bridgeman Place, Bolton, who was on the scene at yesterday's most serious storm accident.

The man in the road had fallen about 40 feet from the roof of J. Parker Ellison's warehouse in Carlton Street.

ON inquiry at the Bolton Infirmary, this morning, we learned that the condition of P.C. Atkinson, who was so badly injured on Thursday in the motor wagon fatality, is very satisfactory.

He is now quite conscious, and passed a very good night.

ANSWERING a charge of using a street for the purpose of betting, Thomas Shaw, of Ashton-in-Makerfield, at Wigan, on Friday, pleaded that he was only doing it in a very small way.

He was ordered to pay 20s., and costs in each of three cases.
