A HORWICH computer firm is backing a bid by Mike Newman to break his own blind landspeed world record.
Scan Computers International Ltd, on Middlebrook Enterprise Park, is sponsoring Mike's attempt to hit 200mph and smash his current world record of 144mph.
The company is helping fund the bid, as well as providing the latest hi-tech computers.
Mike, a 43-year-old bank manager from Sale, will be driving a specially adapted BMW M5 on the runway at Elvington Airfield in York on Tuesday when he makes his high-speed bid and raise money for the charity VISION 2020: The Right To Sight.
The attempt will take place over a measured mile on a two-mile straight stretch during which Mike remains in contact with his support team.
Mike was born partially sighted and was totally blind by the time he reached 12.
He has never let it stop him from leading a full life, including a career with Barclays Bank in Manchester.
Scan director Elan Raja said: "The firm is proud to be associated with Mike and assisting him in chasing his dream. We wish him every success."
