Wanderers could be set to swoop for long-time defensive target Traianos Dellas.

The Greek defender, who was released by Roma in the summer, has also been linked with Spurs and Portsmouth.

Sam Allardyce is keen to boost his defensive options, after admitting his back four were showing signs of fatigue following their 2-1 defeat at Wigan last Sunday.

Dellas, aged 29, is no stranger to English shores, having made his name at Sheffield United in the late nineties. He moved on to Italy, where he won a Scudetto with Roma before being loaned out to Perugia last season.

Although primarily a centre-half, he began his career as a full-back at Aris Salonika, and was also used on the right during his time at Bramall Lane, giving him experience of English football.

Another potential target is 23-year-old Cameroon international Benoit Angbwa. Wanderers are said to be watching the Lille full-back in Saturday's match against Egypt with a view to a move in January.

Meanwhile, Sven Goran Eriksson expects Wanderers assistant manager Sammy Lee to be in the frame for the top job when he steps down.

"When I took the job four-and-a-half years ago, I was asked by the FA to work with two or three England coaches who could take over my job," said Eriksson.

"I still work with these three people, Peter Taylor, Steve McClaren and Sammy Lee.

"I would say that these three will definitely be in the window."
