WHEN I looked at the artists plan for the St Helena Town Centre, my first reaction was that it was a reconstruction of the old Velvet Walks slums demolished years ago.
All I can think, is that the local authority are experiencing pipe dreams, and never ask themselves the following questions:
1. What is Bolton Cafe Society? Are they prepared to sit out on pavements covered in rubbish?
2. Are the proposed flat occupants going to pay high rents to occupy accommodation with views of the roof tops of other similar high rise blocks?
3. Do they imagine famous name stores will come to Bolton when they can find better centres elsewhere?
4. When are they going to make Bolton convenient for pedestrians, who have to walk miles to shops and then to the buses or taxis?
When people say to me they have never seen Bolton, my reply is that "you have not missed much as it is now a hotch-potch town of pubs, clubs, betting shops and rubbish, plus empty properties."
