NURSE Barbara Clark has just won a battle with her local health authority to have her breast cancer treated by the drug Herceptin.
At the same time, another nurse and cancer sufferer, Bolton mum Alyson Cooper, has been denied it.
The type of breast cancer Alyson is suffering from is very aggressive and would definitely benefit from Herceptin.
As a single mother of two daughters, Alyson, like Barbara, cannot afford the £68,000 it would cost to have the drug privately.
On any level, this is morally wrong.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and a time to urge the Government to put more cash into research and treatment of this awful killer.
Before Herceptin is likely to become available on the NHS, 2,000 women like Alyson could die.
This sounds like an excellent time to make such an important drug freely available to all who need it.
