I RECENTLY visited Whitchurch in Shropshire. Parking in a medium-sized car park I could not find a "pay and display" machine, so I spoke to a person in the next car and was told "the car park is free, they all are around here".
In my opinion, this is an example Bolton Council should be following if it wants to attract people to visit the town centre rather than the out-of-town shopping complexes, which already have the attraction of free parking. If a town the size of Whitchurch can afford free parking, I am sure Bolton can.
While walking around Whitchurch, I noticed lots of small independent shops and many old buildings, which all help this small town to retain its unique character, which is an attraction in itself for visitors.
Bolton Council, please take note.
