HEALTH and social care has come together at the refurbished Killelea House in Brandlesholme.
Elderly residents at the council-run home played a part in transforming the building, and held an open day last Friday to show visitors how it has improved.
After 18 months of work, Killelea now boasts 36 en-suite bedrooms, a new reception area, lounge and dining room, physiotherapy and occupational therapy facilities.
Coun Tim Chamberlain, executive member for health and well-being, said: "Throughout the refurbishment, 10 permanent residents at Killelea helped to shape the changes and now they are as delighted as everyone with the new facilities. As well as bringing the home up-to-date, the improvements also meet the required standards set by the Commission for Social Care Inspection, which is excellent news."
Some of the new services involve health staff providing therapy services and social workers delivering intermediate care. The funding for the project was jointly provided by the councils adult care services and the Primary Care Trust.
Coun Chamberlain added: "Killelea House is an excellent example of how the council is meeting its promise of modernising services and the changing needs for older people across our borough."
