YUMMY mummies took the opportunity to unwind and relax with a spot of pampering to raise money for children living with cancer.
More than 130 women packed into the Victoria pub in Hall Street, Walshaw, for the CLIC Sargent Yummy Mummy charity night, raising more than double their original target for the charity which supports families living with childhood cancers.
Ticketholders helped to raise the £2,000 total by browsing over a range of pampering goodies from Virgin Vie, Miss Goody2Shoes and Spirit while enjoying a tapas buffet.
Firefighters from Bury also lent their services to pick out winning tickets for a variety of raffles and auctions with prizes including a luxury night in a limousine, free tickets to Alton Towers and hair and beauty vouchers.
The night was organised by Dawn Fidler, mum of five-year-old Joshua Wilson, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March 2004.
An operation to remove the tumour on his brain stem left the youngster in a coma where his body could not function, yet he remained fully aware of his surroundings. Since then, he has made continual improvements and is now no longer classed as being in a coma and is due to complete his chemotherapy at Christmas.
Joshua's battle with cancer led Dawn, of Walshaw Road, Bury, to support the CLIC Sargent charity and help Yummy Mummy Week's effort to reach a £100,000 target.
More than 72,000 women across the country took part in more than 3,200 Yummy Mummy events.
Dawn said: "It was a fantastic night and I can't believe how busy it was; so many women turned up. I think a great night was had by all and it was a real success."
