SNOOKER legend John Spencer is set to break into the book world when he launches his autobiography next week.

John, of Tipton Close, Radcliffe, won the world title three times during his illustrious career.

Having just celebrated his 70th birthday, his book Out Of The Blue Into The Black will be launched at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, the home of the world championships, on October 10.

John was forced to retire prematurely from the sport after being diagnosed with a rare condition, myasthenia gravis, a muscle weakness disease that has no known cure and can prove fatal.

The book is the story of Johns struggle with myasthenia gravis, his early life in wartime Manchester, his magnificent snooker career and his memories of the men whom he played alongside.

John, who was diagnosed last year with terminal cancer, recently completed a 13,000ft parachute jump with the Red Devils display team raising awareness and funds of £25,000 for the Myasthenia Gravis Association (MGA) a charity which helps support sufferers of the disease through its 57 support groups throughout the UK.

Some of the proceeds of the book sales will also go to the charity. His book can be purchased from the MGA on 01332 290219 priced at £17.99, which includes post and packaging.

John recently attended the MGA annual conference where he was presented with a birthday cake which described him as a snooker and parachuting legend.
