STUDENTS are being urged not to overlook insurance when preparing to go to university.

It is estimated that more the 70 per cent of those going to Bolton University will not have adequate cover, yet students are said to be a target for burglary.

Christine Clark, partner at Manchester-based insurance group JL Manson and Partners, said: "Students leaving their possessions in an empty house should ensure that they have adequate cover because items such as cds and dvds can amount to a substantial sum if stolen."

She added: "Students should take advantage of student policies, as these dont cost a great deal and most UK home insurance companies have a dedicated product for students.
