A MAJOR recruitment drive is being launched to increase the number of special constables in Lancashire.

Members of the public are being invited to a "behind the scenes" look at the work currently being carried out by community bobbies.

Visitors will have the chance to hear presentations from existing special constables on Sunday, October 23, at the Constabulary's Ellis Conference Centre at the force's headquarters in Hutton, near Preston.

There are currently more than 300 volunteers working as specials throughout the county. They have full police powers and perform the same duties as regular officers.

Specials wear the same uniform as police officers and are issued with the same equipment. Aged between 18 and-a-half and 50 years, they work flexible hours with a minimum requirement of four hours per week.

The open day starts at 2pm prompt. If you would like to attend contact Jenny Cole 01772 412128 or Laura Hesketh on 01772 412127.
